May 25 - Memorial Day in the U.S., also called Decoration Day for the tradition of decorating soldiers' graves with flowers. The observance dates from Civil War years, with the first documented observance on May 5, 1865.

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal". ~From a headstone in Ireland

May we all take a moment throughout the day to remember those that we have lost. Not only in War, not only Soldiers, but every man, woman and child throughout the World!

God Bless you all and your families, friends and loved ones!

Peace be with you!
Rest in Peace

Memorial Day means all the more to us this year in that we visited the American military cemetery in Normandy a couple weeks ago, near the landing beaches.

It was a beautiful place, and all those white markers make one realize how much we owe to that particular generation.

This will be one of those days that I will be remembering a lot of my old friends. After all these years I still miss them and feel a need to thank them one more time. Have a good day!

A hearty salute to all soldiers, past and present.

Whenever I encounter young people, I politely try to steer the conversation, if possible, toward the military history of our country.

I am both saddened and amazed at how little they know of the sacrifices made by those who came before us. They don't seem to have a clue that the freedoms they enjoy (watch American idol, root for sports teams, pursue careers, etc) comes at a price paid by others. What's worse, many of them don't seem to care.

I just wanted to say Happy Memorial Day and lets not forget the ones who have died to make this country what it is today. I also want to thank the ones who did make it home and did their part to defend the rights we have all grown acustomed to

Our country has never done enough for our Honored Heroes. There is too much shame in that. Later this week I will be going with my uncle to the Vietnam Memorial Wall. It is all that he has asked for this year. His family has been dead for more than 10 years and I am almost all he has. I am honored to be able stand by the side of my uncle and my hero before the mighty wall.
