I think this is the right forum for this. I'm looking to change the album I keep my circ U.S. type coins in. I have them in the Dansco 7070 right now but would like something that, 1) is upgraded to include more current type (e.g. Sacagawea $1) and, 2) is more stable/inert for long term storage.

I'm looking at the Littleton type album (LCA14) because one can get the "anti-corrosion" kit for it (I'm assuming this is something like the Intercept Shield technology?) and because I think I read somewhere it has like 83 openings (as opposed to 72 for the Dansco album) so it must have some additional coins included.

What I also like about the Littleton ablum is the lighter page color (sets off the coins more). What I'm not sure I like is the binder style page posts.

Does anyboday have one of these Littleton albums that can tell me what all the extra openings are for and what their opinion of the album in general is?

Thanks, I'd appreciate it.

I noticed Dansco has an additional page you can get now for gold coins to put in the 7070 album. Eventually I do want to do the major gold types but I have a Capital Plastics holder already for those.

Yeah, whatever you find out would be great. I'm curious what all those extra opening are for. Was thinkin' maybe somebody here had one of those Littleton albums.

Thanks

I know that the Dansco and Whitman folders (and others) are very, very nice. Personally, I would rather spend that money on the coins. I just put them into 2x2's and then slide them into plastic sleeves. One sleeve holds 20 coins. I label them with a label maker. I then put the sleeves into hard notebooks. Sometimes I label the notebooks and sometimes I don't. I color code the notebooks so that I know what type set is what. I want to have my coins for ready reference and do not have a safe or deposit box at the bank. I simply either put these into a piece of luggage (locked) so that I can roll them around without lifting or the notebooks can go on a shelf in my office and noone (except me) knows that they are coins. This isn't a fire safe method, but it works for me. I can still view both sides of the coin and remove them easily and without damage to sell, trade, view or show.

ds, If you don't have the album how can you find out which coins you need to complete the type set?

I do the same thing that dsking does. I just look through the RedBook to find out which coins I need.

I forgot all about this thread - oops! I use a label maker on each 2x2 (excessive, I know). I keep a list of everything in the album and when I put them in I leave spaces for the "missing" coins and just keep adding pages as I go along. It's a little more work but, the coins are protected by the 2x2.

My Mom's coins were kept in little slot folders for years and where the coin was exposed to the air the coins have tarnished and where they were protected they have mint luster.

My experience with the Littleton books are that I don't care for the little slips that they send and 2x2's don't fit into the slots on the sleeves. I only have the Archival book for the World coins so my experience is limited.

I'm not thrilled #1 with the price of the Dansco folders nor the difficulties of getting the coins in and out (where necessary to upgrade and so forth).

I'm just a "keep it simple" kind of collector I guess. If this type of system works for dealers than it works for me.
