Any Statehood Quarter you see that is gold-plated was done post-minting (not by the US Mint). You will never find a listing for gold-plated quarters in any reputable price guide due to the fact that they are only novelties with no real numismatic value other than the face value of the quarter Dont let anyone fool you into thinking that the gold plating gives it a high value- the gold is only a few atoms thick in most cases which will certainly amount to a few cents worth of gold.

Personally, I view gold plated coins as a gimmick. Unfortunately, they are often marketed as "valuables", and many people are fooled. Later on, when these same people want to cash in their "valuables", they realize they overpaid for the item, and develop a distaste for the coin collecting hobby on the basis of this experience.

My advice: stay away from gold-plated coins, and advise others to do the same.

I agree with the above poster, Gold plated coins SQ's, Kennedies or just about any other coin are altered coins, and any numismatic value that the coin may have had, is lost.

This would include most of the so called tribute coins as well in my opinion.

I'd bet you wouldn't even get face value for it. They may not notice new nickels (merchants), but I think a "gold" quarter would catch their eye.
