I was given a Peace 1923 Silver Dollar from my grandfather before he passed away. It has been circulated up until about 1980. About how much would it worth? I also have some Mercury dimes from 1944D - Roosevelt 1954. Does anyone know about them?

levic991,

Welcome to the forum.

The 1923 Peace dollar that circulated for 57 years is a very common date and would be worth a bit over melt. Coin shops are paying 12x face lately, so they would probably offer $12. ebay would bring between $15-$20. The Mercs and Rosies are also common dates and unless they are pristine UNC condition, they too are 12x face or $1.20 each.

I'm kind of a sentimental fool. I'd keep that Peace dollar and hand it to my grandchild when the time came and relate the story.

At least $ 500,000.... really.. My grandfather used to give me a Peace $ every time I visted him when I was a kid. I still have them around today to remind me of him. The coins that he once touched and handed to me are priceless in my mind. I consider them an heirloom. I think if you sell it on ebay for a whopping $ 18, one day you'll look back and wish you hadn't. If you need the $ find something else in the house to let go...
