Any coin that is rejected by quality control is "destroyed" by waffling. It is done with a large roller machine that imprints a waffle pattern of the coin, thus cancelling it. The Mint sold a huge lot of them several years ago as scrap but someone got the bright idea to sell them to collectors. I don't think the Mint allows any new ones to be publically released. Bryan1315 Bedrock of the Community United States 14454 Posts	Posted 01/13/2010 05:30 am yeah this was the biggest misunderstood product the mint has let out of their holdings in some time. Some new collectors thought these things were something special and I guess its when the TPG's decided to actually encapsulate these waffled coins that threw collectors in a tail spin about them. These were not any type of error (well atleast not after the mint got done with them anyway) they are just as stated above, coins that failed quality control that were canceled out by the mint Report this Post to the Staff
