I see these one e-bay alot, the sellers call them errors. I have no interest in them, but what are they supposed to be?

Sorry I don't have a link right now.

They are not errors but they are Mint products. Any coin that is rejected by quality control is "destroyed" by waffling. It is done with a large roller machine that imprints a waffle pattern of the coin, thus cancelling it. The Mint sold a huge lot of them several years ago as scrap but someone got the bright idea to sell them to collectors. I don't think the Mint allows any new ones to be publically released.

I have one, but only as a curio. I don't think any have been let out in the last few years.

yeah this was the biggest misunderstood product the mint has let out of their holdings in some time. Some new collectors thought these things were something special and I guess its when the TPG's decided to actually encapsulate these waffled coins that threw collectors in a tail spin about them. These were not any type of error (well atleast not after the mint got done with them anyway) they are just as stated above, coins that failed quality control that were canceled out by the mint

Coins that those sneaky, cocky, scoundrel, huckster, know-it-all, snake-oil dealers that want to sell you a 1921 D Mercury dime in FA-2 for eighty bucks can charge you an arm and a leg for. - coincrazed

Other than ebay, where could some one get these. They must still release them because that ebay item number is a 2009 quarter
