This was a recent purchase to complete my Lincoln set. I previously had a cleaned example that I sold. Anyways, it was NGC certified, but I removed it to place in my album. What would you grade it at? What did NGC give it?

VF-25 It looks like it was cleaned, IMO.

I have a hard time deciphering whether or not it was cleaned from the picture, however I would probably grade it considering its age and rarity at 40.

I'm going with VF-30. Great coin, Mr. Johnny! (But it's not gold...)

I am certain it is original. The "grainy" look is due to in improperly mixed alloy, similar but not as extreme as the "woodies".
Nope, not gold. I took a brief break, but now am right back on track. :-)

Looks very close to EF. I'd say VF35.

thank you Moe! :-) Heck, I didn't even realize that...lol.
NGC gave this coin a VF-20, which I thought was very conservative. I would give it a 30 personally!

VF20 is a very low grade for that coin. Just for kicks I pasted in Photograde for Lincoln Wheats below:

Thanks bherring. Yeah, I have noticed that the new NGC slabbed coins are graded quite a bit more strictly in general than the older ones. Of course, you can't always judge them that way, since I am certain that many older NGC coins have been reholdered in a new slab at the same grade. Still, its good to consider this when purchasing a certified coin. Here is a shot I took before removing it from the slab.
