SCARCE FIBER COIN FROM WWII JAPANESE OCCUPATION OF CHINA

Manchukuo(1932-1945) was a Japanese puppet state carved out of Northeastern China prior to World War II. Due to a severe metal shortage towards the end of the war, this 1945's 5 Fen coin was struck in a red fiber material rather than metal.

It's said this historic World War II coin is one of the few circulating non-metallic coins of the century.

Could you help me? Dear Buddy!

Come on!

Thanks a lot!

WOW!
Faithful Appreciation to your answer!

This cute coin is really interesting!
It's said that it's the only one non-metallic coin of the 20th century!
Right?

No, it isn't the only non-metallic coin in existance. There is Japanese clay 1 sen coins minted because of the same reason. That said, even if the catalogue value is at 60USD, I believe it is severely overrated as I have seen it with my own eyes as low as 20USD.

A site example here is: http://www.joelscoins.com/wwii.htm

Anyway, Could you give some reason? more detail?
Why do you believe it's severely overrated?

Thanks a lot!

20USD is for a bright XF that I saw the other day. I don't know how Krause managed to put a 60 dollar price tag beside it. If Joelscoin puts a VG at 16USD, I don't know how much lower he pays for them.

That said, you cannot say Krause is a god when it comes to pricings - it is fairly bad when it comes down to world coin pricing - korean, russian coins etc are grossly undervalued whereas some obsucure countries are grossly overvalued.

A good idea is to do a search on ebay to check on the pricing of your coin. Perhaps there are willing people who wants to pay more than the catalogue value.

Dear Gxseries
Thanks for your professional reply!
But, howerver, as you know, usually those pricings on ebay are various, though they're just only for same one type of coin!
That does make me perplexed![:p]

Anyway, here's another Rare Coin from Japanese Manchukuo.
Could you give some advice on its worth, please?
It's said it should be the rarest type, which is commonly called
Aluminum Chiao, 1943(KT10) "rice type"

For some reason, I don't see the alumninum coin as often as the fiber coin but price wise, probably 5-10USD? Don't quote that though - use the price as a guide of what it can possibly be worth.

CV in the latest Krause for year 10 (1943) on KM/Y# 12 (the 10 fen pictured above) is $400 in VF. It seems to be the "key date" in the Manchukuo series.

400? Who knows - maybe if it is a scarce year. I honestly want to know where Krause gets their price quotes though.

Here is an online seller that sells the earlier example of 5 fen. http://www.anythinganywhere.com/com...v-mwc-cd.htm
