the we and in on IN GOD WE TRUST is a teensey bit cut off, same with the top part of LIBERTY. but I'm focusing on the mint marks on both. the penny is a 1978 D and there is no hole in the D. I think its a filled die. and the P in the dime is also filled in. comments if I'm wrong will be helpful! (the pics arent very good so it looks like a regular penny and dime. but its not)

Sorry but your pix are not close enough to see the mint marks.Going by your description it sounds like either a filled die or just ware,neither of which is of value.
