Would some of you who have studied Canadian coins a lot longer then I have take a look at E-bay Item number: 330396571614 "EXTREMELY RARE COIN 1921 FIVE CENTS PIECE YES 1921 *5*" and let me know if you think it is real. I have no reason to doubt the seller, but most of what he sells is certified and I'd think this coin would need it more than most. Thanks, Steve

The listing is found here: http://cgi.ebay.com/EXTREMELY-RARE-...-5_W0QQitemZ330396571614QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_2?hash=item4ced2b97de I kind of have my doubts, but it is pretty battered. The wear on the front doesn't really match up to the rear: The thing is, when this was released back in 1921, it became known quite rapidly that there were very few minted, and since it was obvious that the bigger sized nickel would be the one that would be minted from then on, the natural inclination for most people would have been to pull all silver five cents from circulation as fast as possible. So, how did this one receive so much wear on the face? It's just not logical.

Hmm...I was unaware of this coin, so I pulled an image off Heritage--slabbed by PCGS: Then I enlarged the ebay coin as much as feasible and compared alignment of digits: Was only 1 reverse die used for this strike?

The surfaces of the ebay coin see to have raised dots- especially to the right of the wreath. The highly magnified picture seems to show both the raised dots and a very wierd pattern of lines and dots around the raised letters. Check the shiny areas between the letters on the Obv. for pitting, and close to the nose, also around the denticles/dots below the rims. I do not trust this one. It looks similar to copies I have seen.

This is the same seller who tried to sell a two-tailed twoonie a couple of months back.

I don't understand this seller. If I had a coin that valauble that I was going to sell, I would have it slabbed by one of the major appraisiers to get the most money for my sale. He does not mention anywhere in his listing that the coin was appraised. With all the Chinese fakes going around, I would never buy such a coin without proper ICCS or CCCS paperwork.

The bidding has passed $3000 USD with 4 days to go. He also has a $5000 USD buy-it-now.
I am sure he could get a lot more than $5000 if he bother to spend $15 to get it certifed.

your 2 looks better than mine but it is still strange why not ask him to certify or you do the certification and ask for a return if it is not real?

People certify $8 MS-63 coins on a regular basis. When I see any of the more expensive coins selling raw these days, it's an automatic "no thanks". People that got a hold of the fakes will not be able to get them certified and will be forced to try and sell them raw, just like this listing. You've got to be out of your mind to take the word of a guy who sold two twoonie halves glued together as a great "rarity" to be a source of numismatic knowledge.

hello, this person seems to have a lot of certified coins. WHY NOT this one? AND he only has a 3 day return policy which does not give enough time for certification and if needed to return it. I believe timing would also exceed filing a dispute with Paypal, but may be wrong. If he would spend $15 on certification, or even $50, he would get a lot more......it is very suspicious....... I have a certified, by CCCS as a VG 10, authentic 1921 5 cent piece. I am willing to part with it for 5,800, or perhaps a close offer.... if there is any interest, a PM would be appreciated.. H
