I wanted his coin soooo bad. http://cgi.ebay.com/Encased-1922-Si...55_W0QQitemZ a href= https://www.coincommunity.com/go/link.asp?target=https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/290386369770 target= _blank rel= nofollow 290386369770 /a QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439c605ceaIt's been haunting me since I lost it! I got beat with like 5 seconds left. I increased my max bid with 4 min left for $47.50 over the current bid and someone outbid me. I was white hot nuclear angry! It's the first time I wanted something and lost. I thought I'd share! Brian

any time I get outbid like that I just look at it as the person who won it over paid for it because I bid what I thought it was worth to me. I do not place a bid then up my bid if I think it will go over that amount, I just place the highest I would ever pay for it and no matter if it sold for 0.05 more than my bid the other person over paid. Would I probably pay 0.10 more for it, sure I probably would have but the fact that at the time I placed my bid that was the max I had in mind. I refuse to get into a bidding war no matter how badly I want something. And just because the othger persons bid was one incriment over yours doesn't mean that was the max they bid on the item, they may have bid 100.00 over your final bid. Would that make it better if it sold for 100.00 more than you were willing to pauy?

nohope, do you find that doing that helps you win more often? I heard that setting them that low causes you to miss more often, but I don't know if I'm right. I set mine at the typical 6 seconds and get outbid all the time. Sometimes by huge amounts, and it seems to usually happen on the coins I actually want to put in my album (even if I pay a high price) rather than just because its a good price, grrrr.

I'd say about 30% don't go through due to processing time but the later you snipe the more chance you have of winning I think. I never won auctions I was interested in before I started sniping. Now win at least 10% of the time.

Shadow and nohope: I use a snipe program and I can tell you, beyond the shadow of a doubt, it has helped me win more item at prices I wish to pay. My program only allows me to bid at "standard" increments however, like 5 seconds, 10 seconds, one minute etc. Nohope - would you mind sharing which program you use...?

I have had this happen a few times too. It is a little frustrating but if it is an item I really want, then I just wait until the last few seconds to bidand it usually comes down to a bid on the last 2-3 seconds. So if you do not have a program that will set up a last second bid or you are not available to sit at your computer near the auction end time, then you will probably lose out on a few good auctions. However, like somebody said at least you won't overbid for something at the last second just to outbid somebody.

I use myibay it allows you to specify the time to bid and seems to have no problem with decimal seconds. I use the registered stand alone version not the free online option.

I usually set mine for 2 or 5 seconds but still if you don't bid enough you will not get the item. If they bid $100.00 over what they think anyone else will ever bid (and some times they will because they want it so badly) no matter what you use it will still be out bid within the last 2 seconds because it will place their bid after yours

I always snipe by hand. Last 10 seconds and then I execute. I've literally never lost and I've gotten some really good deals. But on the other hand I probably only have about a dozen or so ebay purchases, a handfull of them being BIN coins.

I set my best bid to fire at 6 seconds, if I don't get it at the price I was willing to go than so be it. I quite second guessing when I am outbid by a very small amount, no telling what the max of the other sniper was so go with the flow...doesn't matter what the other is at on time, 2 sec or 10 sec I would have won or loat either eay.
