The boss had me breaking out some coins today to toss in the melt bucket. Unfortunate but true folks. I rescued these for slightly under melt and they shall be safe in the Clembo collection. My first Australian coins.

I find a lot of Australian silver in the melt bucket, especially dates from the mid 4os. WWII saw a lot of these coins in the pockets of our soldiers stationed there, not to mention that a good portion of these coins were minted here in the US. You can find D and S mint marks on '42, '43, and '44 silver coins.

I've been able to buy Aussie .925 coins locally at below melt value
on several different occasions, as well as a (cleaned) 1966 Aus.
Decimal 50˘ for US$1 last year!

They should send you to the crucible for you sins against numismat-ery. Melting coins is wrong.

Other than that, awesome coins!

Unfortunately, there's a perception that the only "junk silver" that
buyers want is pre-1965 U.S. (and pre-71 40% Halves), so a lot of
world coins go in the pot.
(even .925 Sterling )

Meanwhile, some smart aleck like DNA walks around a coin
show looking for Can/UK/Aus coins selling for below melt value...

My best "junk silver" buy recently was a bunch of Silver Proof State
Quarters in lenses at 10× face, while everyone else walked past this
guy's table to buy common-date pre-1965 circulated business strike
Silver coins at 10×/11× face.

Blame my boss. I just do what he asks.

It really is scary what does go into a melt bucket. On the other hand it has made my World collection grow.

clembo- Great save! So many dealers just want to melt silver coins that they presume no one will want to buy. I have saved so many nice Asian coins from the melt box since they were thrown in there because the dealer could not read them. So great stuff does end up slated for destruction despite being absolutely great.
