Hi, I wonder what is in the Red Book of US coins, does it include all the years from 1795 to now or just current issue coins? Would appreciate knowing what's in it before I buy... thanks.

The RedBook covers colonial issues as well as the current coinage, california gold to a point and commemerative issues also.It has a small error section with descriptions and approximate retail values.

it is a great resource book for coin compositions histories and designers, the price guide though is just that a guide and is a high retail of the coins .

The RedBook covers colonial coins to present-day ones. What I find really nice is having a brief history of each coin, which lets you know the historical significance of the coin. Then again, I could just be weird.
Rest in Peace

Bought my first Red Book in the early 1960's.

The newest edition is great. Well worth the price.

The Red Book is used more as the "standard" for collectors and Dealers. It's a great guide for U.S. coins. There are many other publications for special interests ofcourse. No, Fengk, you are not "weird". Knowing the Historical significance of a coin is a big part of collecting. Just think who/whom may have held these coins in their hands at one time and when. I especially enjoy holding my Civil War Indian cents and thinking about where they may have been - it's mind boggling!

buffaloboy5 - the Black Book for Foreign Coins is quite helpful also. It's not as detailed as I would like but, helpful none the less.

hangokid11: I ran into the same thing with the Black Book of World coins. There's a wonderful set of books on World/Foreign coins: "Standard Catalog of World Coins" for different years ie: 1801-1900 authored by Chester L. Krause and Clifford Mishler. The books run anywhere from $50-$70 and I just haven't made that investment yet. The "Standard Catalog..." is much more comprehensive than the "Black Book".

The RedBook in my opion is a must have book. I am a newer collector adn there where so many US coin I never know were out there tell I go the RedBook. It is a very easy to read and is put together very well. if you are looking for a cheap one I know alot of dealer have the 2006 book a little cheap then the 2007 since they are trying to get ried of ther stock so if you are not using it as a price guide that is a good way to go. But you should be able to get a RedBook for less the 15.00. as soon as you get 50 post I know the Forum Mom has them for sell cheap I beleave it was 13.00 including shipping.
