I have a couple of people interested in this coin and have no idea what to ask for it. Anyone care to assign a grade and the price a dealer might pay for it. Thank you

I would say this coin has VF-30 detail and obviously has been wiped or cleaned in a manner that left a lot of horizontal hairline scratches. The dent at the back of Liberty's head is an additional distraction. These problems should knock off several hundred dollars of potential value.

In 2007 I bought an 1851-C gold dollar from noted gold specialist Douglas Winter. It is graded PCGS AU-55 and my cost was $2165. I think these coins have actually come down a bit, with a PCGS AU-58 selling on Heritage for about $2070 recently. A "harshly cleaned" NGC-slabbed coin with AU detail went for just $805 this month.

At a guess I'd say a no-problem VF-30 coin might sell for $1000 or so. With its defects your coin might be valued in the $600-$700 range. You might ask for $1000 but be prepared to negotiate down from there if you want to sell it.
Rest in Peace

I'd say the coin should grade VF-35 or EF-40 and I agree with the above value assessment.

My guesses: EF Details - Damaged, value around $700.
