hfjacinto Pillar of the Community United States 7339 Posts	Posted 04/03/2022 11:00 am Other one is coming Portugal had very high hopes for its currency after the end of the Monarchy and establishment of the first republic. The first set of coins were silver and the Escudo was crown sized. Even the centavos were silver. The 10 centavos was a very pretty coin indeed. But financial mismanagement and inflation robbed the coins of value, in such that the value of the precious metal was more than the coin. The coins all disappeared from circulation. The same thing happened in the US during the civil war and the government released fractional currency. Portugal sensing a good idea did the same. This a 10 centavos fractional note.
