This is Pick 165 A and features the signatures of Rafael da Silva Neves Duque & António Alves Salgado Júnior. Front of the note features Pedro Nunes, Born 1502 - died August 11, 1578. Pedro was a Portuguese mathematician, cosmographer, and professor. Considered one of the greatest mathematicians of his time,Nunes is best known for his contributions to the nautical sciences (navigation and cartography), which he approached, for the first time, in a mathematical way. He was the first to propose the idea of a loxodrome, and was the inventor of several measuring devices, including the nonius (from which Vernier scale was derived). The reverse features the fountain of the Monastery of Batalha. The monastery features the tomb of the unknowns soldiers of Portugal. It truly is a spectacular Monastery. Princetane Pillar of the Community 4628 Posts	Posted 09/12/2022 04:28 am Unissued East German 200 and 500 Marks 1985 Several million of each were printed and stored until the collapse of the DDR. The reason given was how useless these notes would be. The average monthly salary for most workers was 300 marks, 500 marks was a Professors Salary. Most people would need small change. This did not stop an Intershop (Shop where Western goods could be bought with hard currency) voucher for 500 marks being issued! The notes were stored in vaults and even caves until discovered in the mid 1990s. Report this Post to the Staff
