I was reading more about India banknotes with staple holes, at one point in the late 1990's, the Reserve Bank of India were having to remove up to 5 billion notes per year from circulation, due to their condition, multiple staple holes etc. Some shops refused to accept "holey notes", you have got to wonder why banks never simply put a band or seal around the bundles of notes instead of stapling them.
A bizarre practice, which eventually stopped around 2002. Sorry to ramble on

Scots, I can understand the shoppers frustration with the holes. It's appalling to me that that was standard practice.

Top is a series 1 Reserve Bank Pound of 1934/40. Condition is only VG, but these are hard to find notes.

Below it is a very nice £5 note of Fleming series 2 but an earlier (1955/61) with no security thread. This note is in about EF condition

A 10/- below and also a nice note.
