Hello -

Attached please find images of a recent acqusition of a silver cob (at least, that was what I was told when the item was acquired.)

Any insight as to what the coin is, its denomination, etc., would be most appreciated.

Thanks, kindly.

The recognized expert in cobs is Daniel Frank Sedwick

He's really great to deal with and has published books on cobs.

Don't know much about them, but it is a cob, from the size of the 2X2 I would say that it is an 8 Reales, and the pictures are upside down. I can't guarantee Mexico, or authenticity.

Thanks Conder101. Indeed, you are correct, I've learned since that the pictures are upside down. Thanks for confirming that it is a cob!

It isn't from Mexico. Mexico cobs have fancier crosses. Could be Potosi.

It also looks more like 1555-1621.
