my wife and I just received this beautiful Trade dollar January 20. The coin weighs exact and the dimensions are dead on. The coin was made in San Francisco and we would like your opinion?

I'm going to say AU-58, with some rim damage.

with an AU-58 grade. There is a lot of mint frost remaining on this coin and I don't see any wear on the high points. However, the dark fields and faint hairlines suggest the coin has been subjected to enough friction to knock it out of MS territory. It is still a looker with much more appeal than your average AU Trade dollar.

Echizento, you have sharp eyes! I see a wide, shallow rim bruise at 2:00 on the reverse and a smaller one at 12:00 on the obverse. These look like slight problems that should hurt the value a little. I'm not sure I would have noticed them if you didn't mention the rim damage!

there are also a couple of marks next to the "we" on the obverse. When we purchased it we figured it to be AU 58.
