Great eye appeal!

What little wear I see could be slight weakness of strike of the obverse.

AU55.

Beautiful coin, but not quite in the AU range IMO. I'd call it EF-45. There is light but extensive wear over Miss Liberty's cheek, hair, and hair ribbon. The right obverse field is dull from friction. The reverse rim and legend show weakness from about 9:00 to 11:00 which I attribute to strike rather than wear.

The remaining coppery luster gives it great appeal and the appearance of a higher grade.

With the amount of wear that is present I would also have to say EF-40.
No matter how you grade it this i9s one nice coin.

Thanks everyone! I agree, I would also attribute to strike rather than wear on most of the hair detail. I will post "their" grade as well as any attributes soon.

Here is the slab. Maybe a long ago light cleaning but corroded, I don't think so. I have examined this coin under high magnification and have found no signs of corrosion. Did ANACS see something I did not I don't have a microscope.

Photos don't tell the whole story, but these two certainly don't show any obvious corrosion. You might consider breaking this one out of it's jail cell and resubmitting.

I think EF45 is a harsh grade but I would NOT resubmit it. If they didn't get it right the first time why on earth would you pay them to do it again?

I agree with bmanofnbc. I not going to waste my time resubmitting. Long ago cleaning? Maybe. Corroded? I just don't see it. I think they were excessively harsh on this lady.

I tend to see a lot of coins that don't look that bad labeled "corroded-cleaned", I think sometimes they just take one look at the color and make some sweeping judgment about surface quality or something. I would agree that their assessment was off though.
