I bought out part of a collection a few weeks back , with a lot of foreign coins and $45 in American face while sorting through the foreign I swept out what I wanted and bundled the rest together but I have one coin I want help identifying. Its a 1942 South African coin
i think its a 1/2 shilling gold (clad I'm sure) in appearance with a sailing ship on the reverse, a male image facing left with Georgivs VI REX IMPERATOR on the front.

The denomination is 1/2d, which means halfpenny. It should be a bronze coin; in mint state (or, what is very bad, it could be polished) it could give an impression of being gold clad. Although people do strange things to coins, so it could be very well gold clad. The gentleman on the obverse is (was) the King and Emperor of the British Empire George VI, the father of currently reigning Elizabeth II. South Africa became a republic in 1961 and is no longer a subject of British crown.
