Yesterday in the mail this beauty arrived and I really think it's a beautiful coin. It's a France 1900 10 Centimes and the scans don't do this coin justice as it has tons of original luster and great color.

fyimo- Nice! I totally agree that these are great-looking coins. For some very odd reason, which I still have yet to determine the cause of, French coins have always been very under-appreciated in most corners of globe...including in France. Yes, French coins are some of the "slowest" (I have seen this term applied to coins that are not going to rapidly appreciate in value in the near future) coins of Western Europe. So you can sometimes find coins of this type in in fairly nice grades in dealers' junk boxes.

This series is one of the nicest looking coins that France minted.

Congratulations for this very nice coin!
After my home country coins, French coins are my very favorites.
This is indeed one of the most beautiful series of the Francs period and there are many nice coins.

Beautiful! We need to get Liberty back on US coinage again.

One of my favorite French designs too.

Does anyone else have trouble finding well struck versions of these coins?

fyimo - I agree that the French issues of that period are very attractive. I always pull them out of junk boxes.

I don't know why they lag behind in popularity. Perhaps they made too many, Perhaps it is because all the original dies still exist and high grade copies can be restruck.

But one thing you can say for certain is that the French die makers have always been at the top of the game. They have comparably few die erros and clearly their minting techniques were better than the US.

I know they made dies and equipment for less technilogically developed countries like Mexico.
