I apologize! This was in a PCGS plastic slab and was graded genuine but "not gradable" which all of us could not figure out why. Therefore, my idea, which was backed up by everyone on this site, was to crack the slab open. I did and these are the results, although the coin appears extremely beautiful compared to the photographs. I can see no reason at all why PCGS would not grade the coin!

I think you should of added this to your previous post, as there is no reason to start a new thread for something directly related to your previous thread, which in my opinion is what nickelsearcher meant, in a way.

the more I crop the pictures the higher the resolution I can post given the 100 limit on pixels. Therefore, I try and make all the pixels allowable visible coin.

It looks nice out of the case. Are you going to put it in your type set?

Anyhow, I didn't know where to put this, but I had something to say to you, OP:

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, because I mean it in as nice a way as possible since I was in your situation a few years ago I think.

First, I do think you know at least a good amount about coins. However, it does seem like you're spending a lot of money on coins that you have questions about or are unsure about sometimes. I would suggest that you try to learn the absolute ins and outs a bit more before dropping big money on more of them. Meaning, give it some time and observe for awhile before dropping big money. There are so many subtle things in coin buying, and so many subtle scams on ebay that it is so easy to get duped even if you are a moderate level coin collector. Even if something does not 'obviously' have something wrong with it, subtle flaws can cut the value in half or even more. Sellers know that most collectors on ebay, even more advanced collectors lack the knowledge to spot them, and people fall for it! But there are tons ways to ensure that if you are duped, you can get your money back, as you may already know.

What I personally did was to force myself to stick to lower level (under $100 mostly) coins for awhile before advancing to the 'bigger' stuff. I learned the ins and outs of ebay buying before dropping a lot of money. I learned how many sellers trick you into thinking coins are more valuable than they really are, and figured out many subtle scams. In fact, I fell for one of these subtle scams...but thankfully the amount I actually 'lost' was no more than $20 over the course of a few coins (since I got them for a relatively good price and was careful). I'm really glad I did this because I have had some later buys in the $500+ range that I ended up returning due to subtle flaws, but I may not have realized them had I not looked around for awhile to learn the more advanced details.

Just trying to give some friendly advice here....no offense intended at all. I just don't want you to end up making a huge $500 mistake that I easily could have made if I was not extremely careful like I was (and could still happen anyway!). It has happened to MANY forum members on here, you would be quite surprised. Buying on ebay, or even in real life is basically swimming with the sharks much of the time. Not only should you know what you're doing beyond just the basics, but you should be extremely careful, forcibly curb your enthusiasm in favor of cold rationality (and many of us have a LOT of trouble with that), and examine the situation from many angles.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll have some comments on my response, but remember that I didn't mean anything bad. Mods, if this is inappropriate for the topic, feel free to message me and I'll edit it (or just flat out remove it if you wish).

ShadowCreator, I appreciate all the input! No, I am not upset as a wise man once said "if you are talking (instead of listening) you are learning nothing"! In my life time I have always tried to take in as much information as possible. Therefore, I treasure your advice! In fact, that's the sole purpose of my joining the forum(along with the camaraderie that friends bring) was to gain additional information about coin collecting!

A little about me. My wife and I have been collecting a little over three years and have made our share of mistakes and I'm sure there will be more, after all, without knowing "wrong or mistakes" we will not be able to recognize what is "right or correct". If everyone on this forum does not mind I will continue to seek the wisdom and advice which so many here possess!

I have purchased some coins from ebay, however the majority of them have been purchased in my hometown through longtime acquaintances and seasoned collectors who are not in the business of dealing. Although, caveat emptor rules with every blink of the eye!

Thanks to everyone on this site!
Rest in Peace

That's really good that you are buying these mostly from trusted people, since you're much less likely to get burned than from an anonymous seller on the internet or a sleazy coin dealer. It still pays to be careful obviously, but yeah its better. So you're definitely going on the right track then. This forum has also taught me a lot, and that was pretty much the purpose for which I joined too. Also gives me a community of second opinions.
