I've had this thing in my drawer for years, I have only a very few halve dollar coins,,,this forum has been great! in finding out things and practicing with my camera!!I have no idea of its value or grade, but I am curious to understand the grading, I have read online the details of the exposition dollars of 1892 and 1893 but nothing else, I don't think they are to collectable they are not to highly prised but I like it anyway...If I would start a type set this would be one I put in it..thanks for your thoughts and time.....Gene

I would grade your coin as AU-50, cleaned/wiped- you can see prominent hairlines in your photos. It is easier to grade a Columbian on the reverse because the Santa Maria has so much more detail than poor Cristobal's flat head. I can see luster around the peripheral lettering and the sail lines are weak but complete. Even though this commem was the first one, it does not get much attention because it is also the most common. It is also common to find worn and abused examples but it is a tough coin in gem grades.

The hairlines are a sign of a cleaning or harsh wiping as stated. I also agree with a grade of AU50. Wear evident on hair and sails, the high points of the design.

It is a nice example. I see them for sale from $10-$13 in all grades. I purchased one from one of our members about a year ago for $10.
