All, My 2009 Henry the VIII £5 coin for £5 finally arrived. Sadly I have not found a source that will sell more than one per customer. Ken

Correct, this is the normal copper-nickel £5 coin. I won't pay The Royal Mint price for the other versions. Westminster Mint (not a real mint) sent out a flyer saying that for £5 and free shipping that I could one. They limit them to 1 per household. Basically the use this to get you on their mailing list in hopes that you will purchase other stuff from them. Royal Mint sells these for around £10 plus £2.95 to get one in their packaging. When the coin arrived, I put in a an extra airtite that I had. This is supposed to be the link: http://www.5poundcoin.co.uk/But I never have gotten this link to work since it never fills in the order code correctly. I am going to write The Royal Mint asking how to obtain the £5 at face value. Ken

I don't think Westminster does free shipping. I have only purchased the £5 for £5 from them.

I sent an e-mail and this is the reply I got: " The Royal Mint did not mint any Circulation quality £5 coins for Henry V111 this year but if you want to ring me on 01443 623801 I will be able to offer you the Henry V111 Presentation folder for £5."

What exactly did you ask to get an offer of the £5 for the Henry the VIII?
Are you going to call them?
Since you received a reply. I never got a reply from my query when I asked in 2009.

I'm not going to reply. I asked whether the £5s were going to be circulating. Never got a reply back from me telling them their payment system was useless and that no one with a debit card was ever going to be able to buy anything from them, priorities I guess.
Problem is, I only collected £5 coins because I saw them in circulation every so often when I worked with money, now they are not circulating coins, so I don't bother!
Ring up, tell them that you sent an e-mail a while ago, before x-mas and that they offered you this! See what they say!

Hey augsburger, I agree that their payment system is useless. I had to use Mastercard credit card over the weekend to order countdown coins....would not take my Maestro card since it does not have a start date and Amex did not work either.
Anyways, in response to calling them about the other £5.....I called last week, and person I spoke to did not know despite an email that I had. I contacted them again via email and now I have the name of a person to ask for & there should be a note on my account.
Of course, now I might actually have to order a few last year (Henry the VIII) and this year's £5 (Restoration of the Monarchy coin).

Spoke to The Royal Mint today....the Henry the VIII £5 are also available from them at £5. Why they are so hard to get now, is that the banks no longer want to go along with The Royal Mint on distribution of the £5 coins at face value. I find this rather funny, since I thought the British tax payer owned some of those same banks. Ken

Have they changed their policy then? Now they are circulating, or are they just in the little folder but people don't want to pay £10 for £5?
Last year was the first year they were not circulating so the banks couldn't get them!

I am still trying to figure out what is going on. I think you summed in up.....as of last year, it appears that banks did not want them, so The Royal Mint had to figure out what to do with them. Cheapest price for this year's seems to be £7.50 plus shipping. The lady in customer service at The Royal Mint said she would pass on my comments. When I get the one from The Royal Mint, I will let you know how it is packaged.

Has anyone checked if sub post offices still handle £5 coins? I bought the 3 I have in the last few years, at face value from my local SPO.

What was the last one you obtained that way?
What part of the UK are you in?
No luck me asking at either banks or post offices.
What do you ask when you ask?
I am located northwestern part of West Berkshire.

Until a year ago I lived in west london and both my local SPO had £5 coins visible behind their screens. I bought 2003/4/6 coins, sadly only one of each as I wasn't collecting at the time.
