I like anything silver and do have a few Kookaburra's but have found a whole new passion for the Kangaroo. Investment wise they (Kangaroo's) are a far better buy! Just check dealer prices on older issues, check the Australian ( RedBook) McDonald's or have a look see on ebay! The Roos make the birds fly the coop, so to speak!

I really like the Kookaburras, and have most of them.
The Kookaburras and the Lunar coins are among my favorites in my collection.

I spent most of yesterday looking at the Aussie coins and other "darksiders". I will continue with the Kook's but, also will start on the Lunars and definitely the Roos. I received the coin with the "herd" of Roos on it and just love it (Circulated).
I learned yesterday about the Liberian contributions to the coin arena and love some of their work also.

dsking, Have you seen the Liberian commemorative to the Expedition to the Titanic? This coin actually has a piece of coal raised from the Titanic wreck embedded in the coin. Now, talk about holding REAL history in your hand! Now there is a ban in place from raising anything from the wreck so it makes these coins pretty darn special and the last I heard the coal that was recovered is now worth over $2,000 an ounce!!! For the first time in my life I wish I had a ton of that particular coal lying in my back yard!!!
And we don't want to fail to mention the Liberia commemoratives with the Tiffany Glass windows that have been produced twice now! Very Very low mintage on these (999) and quite attractive!

Apparently the old guitars didn't do so hot on the numismatic market as they are relatively cheap even today. Really didn't think the design would mix well with world wide collectors as round, oval or square seems to be the norm. Sure would like to see the slab that would hold one of those guitar coins! Personally I think countries must walk a fine line when offering up commemoratives and once they cross that line into the world of hype and stupidity the collectors will let them know by simply NOT buying the coin! When they first were released I thought the idea was unique but strange. Today I see it NOT as a coin but as a marketing offer that failed.
