Hi Everyone,
This is my first post to the forum, and as a newbie, I'm looking for some advice. I was given a decimal coin collection that was complete up to about 1972. Since then I've been "collecting" (read throwing in a drawer)coins as I've come across them. I thought it was about time (I didn't want to rush into anything :-)) ) that I brought the collection up to date. Could someone please advise me on where I can get a list of all the decimal coins that have been minted? This is so I can avoid looking for a coin that wasn't minted that year.
Thanks in advance for your help. I look forward to being part of the forum.
Regards,
John

Welcome John, Your on a slippery slope. lol Turn back now while you can. lol Cruzi has a great site http://www.cruzis-coins.com/ This is a good place to start. You should get hold of Greg McDonald's Pocket Guide book also. If you need any help locating this book email me & I can supply ($20) a signed copy.

Welcome to the CC forum John.
The current edition is the 13th and the 14th should be released in a few months. Current cost for 13th Edition is around $24 but some people are selling it cheaper due to the next edition being due.
No matter it is still good to have older editions as well so that you can compare values over time.

Hi Barry,
Thanks for the welcome. Until I joined and posted to this forum I didn't realize just how involved coin collecting is. There's certainly more to it than meets the eye. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on which way you look at it, I'm the sort of person who doesn't do things in half measures. Near enough's not good enough, it has to be exactly right. If there's a coin that's been minted, then I have to have it. Now you can see the unfortunate side of it. It'll cost me a fortune if I get fair dinkum about coin collecting. :-))) Anyway, I'll take your advice and get the book and see where I go from there. This venture is not a money making exercise but more of a getting the collection up to date and keeping it that way and then handing it down to my family who will do likewise for future generations.
Thanks again for your welcome and advice.

Hi John - welcome to the forum. You sound like a kindred spirit. My wife is constantly calling me obsessive on the subject of coins. I also deal in getting everything absolutely right. The advice given so far is very good. I rely on the old standard quote "Buy the Book BEFORE the coin." You really need to know what you are getting into before spending money. I see so many novice bidders on ebay who are wasting a fortune that it makes me sick at times. So learn first and then HAVE FUN. I like your approach to collecting - " This venture is not a money making exercise but more of a getting the collection up to date and keeping it that way and then handing it down to my family who will do likewise for future generations." That is perfect and if it goes up in value great.

G'day swamperbob,
Thanks for the welcome. I agree with the obsessive bit. I'll get a copy of the book and see how scared I get. :-)) I get the feeling I'm walking into a minefield. Oh well, everyone needs a bit of a bang in their lives. I'll make some more comments when I've received the book.
Regards,
John

Hey John, When you get to the part of the book that deals with counterfeits check with me on any questions. I have focused on counterfeits for many years now and I have learned quite a bit.

welcome to the world of collecting john , and since you do not do things in half measures it means you must also get all the official PNC 's to complete your decimal collection , I would also advise you to get on the royal australian mints mailing list so at least you will keep up to date with new issues and strike up a relationship with a good dealer and leave him a want list and your collection will slowly become complete , if you live in perth western australia I can recomend the best one in town anywhere else and you might need some feedback from other aussie forum members , good luck with your quest to complete your set
