First, thank you tights24 and Bryan1315 for your input.

I have a minimal set up, still working on purchasing additional items.

Now, I know these are not the best for a number of reasons and I will list my views on them:

No tripod, on the way. (Balanced camera on a stack of quarters.)
1 light, ring florescent, going to get 2 incandescence.
Slightly out of focus and coin not straight on with lens. (Tripod should help with that.)
Photo editing limited to Windows right now.

The camera is a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-s75.
Settings were full auto and spot metering, no flash.
Macro was off because conversion lenses were used. (x2 telephoto and close up lenses in different combinations.

The photos, and I would like your honest opinion and critique good or bad.

I think the pix labeled #8 is better because the other one is too dark. Over all, very good photos.

Is that the color in hand? I would check your setting and see if you have white balance adjuctment and lighting adjustment. My camera is relatively old as well, but it does have features for both.

For white balance, just focus on a piece of white paper when you're in that mode. For lighting, I think my camera has 5 or 6 adjustments, ie. florescent lighting, sunny, overcast, halogen, incandescent, etc. it really does make a difference.

Overall, they are pretty nice pictures. How far away are you from the coin?

8 did look better to me also.

But with more coppery color.

White balance I do manually, I do not find any lighting settings on my camera.

Distance from lens to coin is about 2 inches.

Getting there. Looks like the camera is at an angle though. Try for straight over-head shots.
