The 1913 is a real beauty in hand. Probably the nicest AU so far in my set.

I'd take a near-perfect AU over an MS62-63 every day of the week. These two are examples of why I feel that way.

Looks better than AU to me? What diagnostics are you using to get an AU?

very nice johnny! Steam rolling through another set I see

The 1913 looks fantastic, I detect the slightest rub on the upper wing, but this coin could stand next to a MS62/3 any day and win the eye appeal ribbon.

Well, my very estute observation of the "AU-58" grade on the PCGS slab that the 1913 quarter eagle resides proved to be an excellent diagnostic tool for arriving at an AU grade

Thanks for the comments! The 1925-D was graded AU-55 by ANACS as well, and I'm quite pleased with both of them.

I would re-submit thar 1913. I can plainly see the wear on the key points on the 1925 that make it an AU, but I don't see even a trace of wear on the 1913. But hey who am I to question PCGS?

The 1913 would likely have graded 62 with more luster. The high point rubs are minimal for sure.

NGC has stated they give MS grades to attractive AU coins, marking them down for number and severity of rubs. When you see coins with clean fields and great eye appeal that are in MS61 or MS62 holders it's usually because they're really 55 or 58 coins bumped up.

Yeah, I agree. I was just teasing in my earlier comment and I really have never been good at grading the incuse indians. Especially when it comes to determining the difference between a high end AU and MS. This is why I like AU-58 so much, since it costs about half of what an MS-62 would go for with barely any noticable difference.

Exactly. When buying certified gold I always look at AU-58s. Many have better eye appeal than low MS. They do tend to get pricy in low MS grades as well...

Gorgeous Indians! I'd better start saving up for one. That 1913 is a really nice slider, great coin.
