Victim said his insurance doesn't cover things unattended?
I don't understand. Just about everything stolen is unattended.

Really?
A dealer with 30 years experience, knows how thieves target dealers yet he still leaves $200,000 in his trunk? Sorry but he obviously should have known better. No excuse.
PS ..For the other coin dealers out there ...use a drive thru.

Well that sucks.... I guess..
He knew he wasn't being safe. He's been doing this for 30 years. He drove around to several places to try and find a place to eat. (and he found one where no one noticed someone prying open his trunk?)
This doesn't add up ... It really sounds like attempted insurance fraud, or possibly tax evasion to me. He can claim a loss of 200,000 and still have the coins to sell in venues like craigslist.
He may or may not have known that his insurance wouldn't cover it, but that is a really stupid policy. What happens when you close your store for the night and someone breaks in at 2 AM? Or when you go to sleep and someone breaks into your home without waking you? Or when someone steals your car when it is parked on the street outside of your work? Couldn't an insurance company claim that your item was unattended and therefore in violation of the policy?
If he IS on the up and up he should fight that insurance company with all he's got.

I've heard this story before. And I think the insurance company too is on the skeptical side here. Not sure where this guy comes from but if a coin dealer for more than a few months he should have known better. Parks in a restaurant parking lot, out of view from the restuarant with a fortune in his car? Carries that much in his car and NO BURLAR ALARM? Dosen't check to see if followed from a coin show? Been a coin dealer for 30 years and no BURLAR ALARM in his car?

Quote: Unattended items not covered...his insurance company sucks! I have news for you, that is pretty much industry standard for small easily portable high value items. You take an insured item out into an unsecured area (and a car is an unsecured area) and then leave it unattended that is considered negligence and the policy will not cover it. Quote: It really sounds like attempted insurance fraud, or possibly tax evasion to me. He can claim a loss of 200,000 and still have the coins to sell in venues like craigslist. Tax evasion maybe but not insurance fraud because the insurance won't cover the unattended merchandise and if he had 30 years experience he knows that. Quote: well, being a Christian, you cant take it with you when you die... its just money.. do you tell your boss that when they are starting to hand out the checks? with this logic you should tell them you don't want it because you can't take it with you and you just do this for the fun of it. Most people work for a living not to get rich but to pay their bills, doesn't matter if they own the business or work for someone else they still have bills. If hey own the company/shop they have more bills than their employees probably so when they take a $200,000.00 hit it can hurt

If he was planning on leaving his merchandise in the car then he should have had a full safe welded into his trunk .... The seller is just trying to get over on someone.
No sympathy for him at all. If anything actually got stolen, that is.
