Maybe this is just trivial, but I think the bust of Kennedy on the half dollar should be slightly reduced in size. I find it annoying that the E in LIBERTY is partially covered up by Kennedy's head. I personally think it would look a lot nicer if LIBERTY was unobstructed.

I had to quickly to look at one and I agree that it would be nice of all the letters were fully visible. Even the are and a tiny bit of the B is covered from looking at my 1964 half.

The coins are size they are so that you would have the same amount of silver (when there actually was silver in coins) regardless of the denomination. The same reason silver dollars are so large. To shrink silver dollars and halves would require dimes to be tiny. But, since we don't have silver anymore, perhaps we could shrink them a la "golden dollars"

The issue is not the size of the coin but the image of Kennedy on the coin could be made a bit smaller to allow all of the letters in Liberty to be visisble.

Quote: But, since we don't have silver anymore, perhaps we could shrink them a la "golden dollars" One of peoples major complaint about the SBA dollar was its similarity in size to the quarter. You want to add to the confusion by reducing the size of the half dollar to SBA size? I don't think that will work.

I don't think that will work. You could make it between the size of a nickel and quarter, octagonal, with a reeded edge, and copper color. Or you could make it the same size as the Presidential dollar with a hole in the middle of it.

Or we could make it into a triangular coin! Then no one could confuse it!

I'm not talking about changing the size of the half dollar, but the image of Kennedy so the full LIBERTY isn't obstructed by his head.

It would be nice, since no one should ever stand in the way of Liberty!
But I doubt that it would ever happen.
It is more likely they will stop minting the half dollar before they change the design at all.

They already reduced the size of the bust, I think it was around 1990.
Frankly I would be disappointed if they uncovered the E. It is very easy to put each item on the coin and make sure that nothing touches or overlaps anything else, but it also makes for a very boring composition. By overlapping it ties the the design TO the inscriptions
