For a P-L designation there must be a minimum depth of reflectivity in the fields (I think, 4 inches?) on both sides. The grader must be able to read standard newspaper typeface in the coin's reflection. If the obverse is P-L but the reverse isn't, the coin won't qualify. As Bryan noted, the lovely cameo contrast won't necessarily mean the fields will have the necessary reflectivity.
Beautiful coin, nevertheless. What grade did it receive, and from which grading service?
Oops, I see on the linked post it's ANACS MS-65. ANACS should definitely call it P-L or DMPL if it qualifies. Maybe you could show it to a local dealer and get their opinion about possible P-L status?

Can you post pictures of the entire coin? The cameo effect is present but would need to see the rest of the coin to say if it's proof like or not.

The coin is actually in a PCGS holder I'll post pictures as soon as possible. I love how the surface of the coin looks like ice!

To add, a PL designation also requires BOTH sides to have the total PL reflectivity effect. The obverse definitely looks PL, but the reverse not as much so. It has the cameo affect, but it also has a fair amount of business strike type luster; so that could very well be what held it back. It is a nice cameo coin though, regardless of the designation.

I agree with Johnny, the reverse doesn't have enough reflectivity for it to make PL. I would grade it at MS-65 cameo.

I believe PCGS has been tougher giving out PL and DMPL designations lately. Your coin is certainly close to PL.

I wanna ask, what was the VS thing for? neither are PL coins so not sure whay you added the picture of the other one as a VS. This is what I would expect a PL/DMPL coin to look like  |

PL designation is about reflectivity, and nothing else. There are plenty of examples of slabbed PL Morgans with zero frosty contrast - for instance, early 1900's issues, created very late in the lives of the master hubs, are notorious for lack of frostiness. Although you present a really beautiful coin, there's absolutely no information in your pics which could lead anyone to a conclusion stronger than "might."
I don't say this to malign your 1880-S. It's a great coin, deserving of MS65 whether PCGS granted that grade or not. Is it Prooflike? I can't tell.
