Greetings all! You may have noticed that I have been away from the board for about the last ten days or so.
There is a reason for this, but it's you that is going to have to figure out what it is, and since I haven't had a contest yet, now seems like a good time for one.
Why "Tasteless"? Good question! The answer to it and the first answer that will start the contest off has to do with the following historic political cartoon:

This cartoon is a parody of a real newspicture that appeared at around the same time. If you know what the real newspicture showed, they you'll know where I've been. DO NOT POST THE ANSWER TO IT, just use the information thus gleaned to answer the following questions:
1. Where in Winnipeg did my event happen? This will require some internet research on your part. I'll need an exact place name.
2. How many, and how big? Size-wise, use a comparison: as big as "x" -- there is one right object that you can use in this, as told to me after the fact by someone else that was there and in a position to know.
3. At the end of it all, how long opening-wise, and how many, and of what, closing-wise?
If you can understand the first clue, then the questions that follow should make sense to you, especially if you ever did the same thing I did.
The prize? Fifteen collectible pieces of foreign currency, all different and all in nice shape.
This contest shall run until midnight on Friday, i.e., 2400, February 12, 2010. Make as many guesses as you want until then, but no more than one per day, and, of course, you must have the required 50 posts in order to take part. The person with the most right answers in a single post will be the ultimate winner; in the event of a tie, the prize will be split, and no, I will not give any other clues or confirm whether a SPECIFIC answer is right (I may say something like, "X had three right answers"; use the process of elimination to figure out which ones are the right ones. Each post will stand on its own, and naturally, this could create a situation where some of your posts may be "righter" than the others, but you won't know it until contest end.
Good luck all! Edited by WpgLwr 02/08/2010 10:13 am

How about Concordia General Hospital - 3 kidney stones, the size of peas - 1/2" openings, two, for laparoscopy.
Jeez, I hope I'm wrong!

At this point, let me say that pls is on the right track...but whether there are any right answers there, I will refrain until later on tonight and give a few more people the chance to make some guesses first.
I'll be back here about midnight forum time to go through everyone's guesses.

Concordia General Hospital - Gaul Bladder - 1/2" openings, three, for laparoscopy plus drain. Don't have the band width for a search so I plagiarized somewhat :-)

Okay, it's the end of Day One.
There was really only one right answer to one question, and it was made by nohope587. What exactly it was, I will not say, because I am sure all of you can figure that one out. As for the rest of the answers, all wrong so far...

Very interesting. So far, we have acknowledgement from nohope that it was a gallbladder operation, as you all seemed to get.
In today's answers, we have one correct guess at which hospital it was, but which one is the right one, I cannot yet say. Suffice to say that it isn't any other hospital; if someone wants to decide which one of the three is the most centrally located one, I'll go for that, so first come, first served, on capturing that point.
As to the incisions, you are all very "nice" in wanting to give me the ones you've mentioned; unfortunately, you all have to think bigger...

nohope definitely has one point for guessing gallbladder surgery. deadmunny says: "St. Boniface General, gall bladder procedure, 10" opening, 5 stones as big as golfballs, 16 stitches" Wow...where exactly did that come from? St. Boniface General, check, as can be seen in this picture: So, let's give deadmunny a point for that. Then he goes on to say 10" opening. Yep, and that's good for another point. Unfortunately, that's as far as it's good except for one minor thing...you mentioned golfballs, and I'm going to give you half a point for that because that indeed is the size as indicated to me. So, we have nohope with one point and deadmunny with two and a half points. nancy and nic, unfortunately can't cop any points yet, but what is left to guess is: 1. How many more openings besides the 10" one were there, where were they, and what were they for? (Worth three points) 2. Number of closures in total and what type they were (Worth two points) 3. New Question: What "side effect" has occurred that is beneficial (obviously other than removal of the gall bladder and gallstone or stones)? (This is such a good thing, I'm going to make it worth two points!) With seven points still up for grabs, and standings as follows nohope ... 1 points deadmunny ... 2.5 points it's still can be anyone's game! Carry on, folks!
