I picked up an 1849 Gothic head Florin as my first Gothic and while far from perfect it makes me smile.

Hi....

Very nice coin.

I thought this coin was the "Godless" florin since the coin does not have Dei Gratia or DG on it. This was the first issue of the florin.

I thought the Gothic florin came out in 1852 since it has the gothic script on the coin and was 30mm instead of 28mm.

The 1849 Victoria Florin had a mintage of 414,000 coins and it's a KM 745 and is 11.3104 grams, .9250 Silver, .3364 ASW. The 1949 is the only florin without the DG on it and is the godless florin. I guess I'll have to wait to buy my next one to get a Gothic Florin because you right the Gothic type started in 1852.

Yes it is the Godless florin, very low mintage and a must have for type colelctors. Lucky for us, a lot of people must have saved them once they're going out of the circulation, medium to low conditions of that coin is availible at very reasonable prices on the market. The one I have is very similar to that plus heavy toning.
