World Cup began the day before yesterday. I bet most of you guys are watching the games everyday ! Besides the passion on the games, I think we can also post our World Cup coin pictures here to enjoy. I will start with this one which is the only Chinese coin for World Cup I have. This coin is very nice. It is one of the un-circulated commemorative coins of People's Republic of China. In my introduction of China's circulated commemorative coins, I said that the first commemorative coins were issued in 1984 to commemorate 35 anniversary of China. But before that, from 1980 to 1984, China issued 4 sets ( 11 coins ) non-circulated commemorative coins. All these coins have been sold to abroad, not in China. I think this is a trial for issue of commemorative coins afterward. So this 4 sets are made very very nice according to silver or gold coins' criteria. All the 11 coins are PROOF made. And all the 11 coins are of brass material, which is the material I love most. But brass coins are also hard to keep as they are easy to oxidation. For this coin, you can see how vivid and detailed the design is. We can clearly see the muscle outline of the sportsman. We can also see the hobnail under the shoes. I am not so lucky as most of you guys because your football teams are attending the World Cup. But I am lucky to have so nice coin. :-) All of you must have more World Cup coins. Please post pictures and let all of us enjoy !

We have just one silver coin minted for the 2006 World Cup. Check the date on the coin It was a good investment (just wish I used it that way:) The coin was sold at 15M TL (=11 USD) now the price at the mint shop is 35 YTL (~22 USD) And after October when the mint stops selling them, it will get even higher. http://www.darphane.gov.tr/english/...fifa2006.htmI was wondering how many people follow the cup, I may start a thread in general discussion.

Unfortunately not. I have 3 or 4 of these. Old ones are harder (and a bit pricy) to find. One day I hope to have all of these:)

Wow, Gold Coins ! See what I have found from my collection. These coins are of Argentina to commemorate 1978 World cup. I have also found one UK 2 pounds, not for World Cup, but for Europen Cup. Also football. I feel design of this coin is simple and special. Very nice coin. I like it.

Lim, those are too far considering my near future plans Bob yan, I have two coins of that set of '78 Argentina Cup but I am missing the 100 Pesos piece The UK coin is indeed a nice one, I wonder if those dots (4-4-4-2-2) have any meaning.
