I have it as a struck-through. Just tell me how you'd describe it. Thanks.

Man...in that condition I'd think PMD is a lot more likely.

Looks as though it was pressed into something in circulation.Doesn't look like a mint error to me.I would turn that one back into the wild and make some kids day.

Could be lamination?

As worn as the coin is the lamination would have been awfully deep to start I would think.

I'd say it was a lamination peel. The rim at 4 o'clock is still intact and chances are PMD would have probably taken the rim out too. nlp

This is lamination similar to that but there will be no trace of it when it is worn as much as the 1917 I'm sure.

I agree on lamenation peel. After the top layer falls off you just have what you would see on the OP coin.

OK, thank you, then lamination peel it is. Here's my 1931 lamination, and you can still see some of the peeling. On the 1917, that's just worn off. I don't know why I couldn't figure that out.

On the 1931 example the coin is suffering from lamentation, but the real cause on your coin is what others refer to as the wood grain cents. This happens when the cooper planchets stock is from a poor mix of copper. Thus the lines you see on the coin. Some find they pretty, but give me a nice copper mix instead.
