Simple question...does TX tax coins and bullion?
There was some discussion about abolishing the non-taxation of such in OR recently to generate more revenue for the state...so, how about TX?

Correct if the total is less than $1000 the tax is paid on the value of the coins minus the actual face value. Tax rate in TX is 8.25%

Move to Illinois. I've never paid taxes of any kind on any coin. Actually around here there are many places where sales taxes are just ignored. Flea markets for one. Coin shows, gun shows, knife shows, camera shows, computer shows, etc. Never seen anyone pay any kind of taxes there.

Sounds good to me...but I'm kind of stuck here in Mexico, so I have to work with what I got...everything passes though Texas and if it's sold to me via mail order, I'm finding out I have to pay taxes...

Quote: everything passes though Texas and if it's sold to me via mail order, I'm finding out I have to pay taxes... Mail order is totally different than walking into a store. Do you have coins shipped to Mexico? Or to someone you know in Texas and you go pick it up? I know absolutely nothing about potential duties into Mexico.

I have them shipped to someone in TX and they get forwarded to me down here...the seller said I could avoid the tax if I had a TX sales tax number....that was the only option open to me.
the seller is in houston and so is the forwarding service...i could have it shipped out of state then shipped back...but that seems like such a waste!

Yes, sellers that aren't in TX are no problem...even in TX isn't such a big deal, except this seller is a business...hence they worry about taxes.

So why are you buying from the dealer who is in Texas instead of one that isn't in Texas? Is it something you haven't been able to find from any non-Texas dealer?

It was an ebay auction...it didn't explicitly state in the listing that taxes would be collected...only when the auction was over and it was time to pay did I realize that taxes would be collected. :( Anyways, so I just bit the bullet and paid up...thank you for asking Conder101!
