I have to partially disagree with most on this. When you deal with people all day long it eventually gets to you. And when finally someone wants preferencial treatment such as phone info, I too would probably just said the same as that dealer did. Of course not familiar with how much buisness he does every day but when you deal with people a real lot, you start to really get irritated easily.
And too you may have just called when some other person just called and wanted prices on many coins. Or even a series of calls and no sales, only a lot of calls. And remember too that although you may have been a customer in person in the past, that is not easy to know who is who on the phone.
Always try putting yourself in the other persons shoes for a while.

You bring up some valid points, and the dealer is human just like everyone else. So if a dealer happens to be having a bad day and it's an isolated incident, I wouldn't put much into it. He has bad days, you have bad days, your friends and families have bad days and we should be able to forgive and forget.
However, if there's a pattern of having bad day after bad day, either the dealer doesn't like you or might be in the wrong line of business.
Having worked in a coin shop for a few months, I can tell you that some customers can be very demanding, while others are so easy to work with. You take the good with the bad, but at the end of the day a shop thrives or fails depending on how the customers are treated. I will be honest though...there are some customers with completely unrealistic expectations (i.e. wanting silver Engelhard Prospectors at spot price, wanting to get top dollar for the items they want to sell you, wanting to pay dealer prices for numismatic items, etc) and those are the ones that can cause people working in the shop to have a "bad day".
So I hope anyone who reads this will take this into consideration the next time they go to their local shop. Treat the dealer with respect and understand that he is doing this to make a living, and also understand that there are days when multiple other bad apple customers may have all come in or called right before you stopped in. :)
