Hello,

I'm not sure if "uncirculated" is the same as "bullion" when it comes to American Silver Eagles. I tried starting to collect Proof ASE's but it seems proof ASE's go for about $60 a coin while the uncirculated/bullion coins are in the low to mid 20's, or 30's and thus more affordable.

Because the Proof versions are so high I'm wondering if wanting to collect them is a mistake and I'm wondering if bullion would be cheaper?

Does anyone know of any other online dealer that sells this kind of coin. I also found the boxes I was looking for but APMEX requires a minimum of $50. I'm so frustrated and confused.....any help as always is appreciated.

Thanks,
Rich

How many are you looking for Snitchard? I have dates back to 86.The bullion coins are purchased from a dealer. They are uncirculated as you will never see one in circulation.

Bullion and Uncirculated coins are the same. Go to any dealer and you will see individual examples selling for around the low $20's. The Proofs can be cheaper, depending on where you buy them.

The ones I have are bullion uncirculated coins.I buy and bought them from a local coin shop owner who is registered with the mint as a bullion dealer. He buys rolls of them from the mint and sells them to customers from his shop and on line. The proofs are ordered directly from the mint or from someone who orders proofs from the mint. The bullion is still uncirculated as they are not made to be put into circulation. The gov. is not about to put something into circulation that is valued at around 15-17 dollars in silver and call it a dollar.

Although this would be the exception, not the rule. Like you said, they were not made to circulate.

In Mint terminology, the mintmark-less SAEs are referred to as American Eagle Bullion Coins. In 2006, a new type was introduced with a burnished finish and W mintmark and meant specifically for collectors. These are referred to as American Eagle Uncirculated Coins. The bullion version is commonly called "uncirculated" but it should not be confused with the more expensive version carrying the W mintmark.
