svslav Pillar of the Community United States 2605 Posts	Posted 02/19/2010 7:36 pm To clarify: Even though they used coins for Maundy ceremony on and off since John (1199 - 1216) the special Maundy set of coins was not issued until about 1822, for George IV. Till then the regular circulation small silver coins were used. Long reign of George III had a few types of 3d issued with the one pictured here being the first. 1762 & 63 saw a prolific issue which was intended for general circulation. That's the reason why it is hard to find this type in better than VF condition. Report this Post to the Staff
