Being new at collecting, where is the safest place to sell a coin bypassing a dealer (whole sale prices)? I just want to get back what I paid for it, so I can buy another set that I really want. Any good ideas?

well its really according to what you paid. If you got a good deal then you may be good to go, if you paid retail then sometimes you may take a hit, if you over paid chances of selling it for what you paid is small. If its bullion and you bought it when the spot price was low then selling it high would net more money, if the spot price is the same and you paid spot you should be able to at least sell it for what you have in it. With coins there is just to many variables to give a straight answer from the information given so far

Basically as already noted. Pending on what you already have you may have been overcharged originally making the resale just to get your money back difficult. And try to remember as most just don't realize, almost anything you buy, someone has to make a profit or they wouldn't be selling that. Not sure where or when you purchased your coins but think of this. If you purchased coins from a coin dealer, he had to make a profit and I'm sure he did. Now for you to sell those and make a profit, the prices would have to continually increase to the point of really way to high and no one would want them then.
You could stick around here for a while and after enough postings try to sell to a member. Or you could try ebay. Or a coin show. Or a coin club.

Good advice. I guess I could go to coin show and rent a table, maybe in this way I can at least break-even, or not loose too much!
