Hi, New to the forum, I was just introduced to my father's coin collection mostly silver. dimes quarters and dollars. Here is a bad pic of one that I believe to be one of more valueable coins. but as a novice I have no idea. Love to know what you think . In the next few weeks I plan to take extensive pictures of the collection. I know it is hard to grade a coin without the obverse side but I will get it. assume safe quality.

, to the community. We will need to see both sides of the coin to give you an idea of grade. From what I can see of the obverse picture the coin looks AU.

The 1879-CC is indeed a valuable coin. Unfortunately your coin appears to be polished and if it is, the value is greatly reduced.
As echizento noted, we need to see the reverse of the coin but the obverse details do look high AU.

I will have to check on the polishing . He has the original invoice and envelope from early 80's . I believe he bought it as a uncirculated coin. There is also a 1900 Morgan very similar quality but not sure where it was minted

Can the coin be removed from the holder for photographs? Shooting through plastic often distorts the color and luster, making it more difficult to provide valid opinions about grade.
As a point of reference, one retail price guide shows values of $1800 and $4000 for the 1879-CC Morgan in grades of AU-50 and MS-60, respectively.

it does look to have close to uncirculated details and 1879-CC Morgans are a high dollar coin as was mentioned. I can't really tell by the pictures if its polished or not but hopefully you will get some better pictures and we will be able to tell for sure

Looks cleaned. We need a reverse picture and remove the coin from the holder if you can. I also agree the coin has AU details.
