Post An Ike (Eisenhower Dollar)

Thanks - people ask me whay I collect "those" things? I show them a pic like this ad it becomes self explanatory. But just like I can enjoy a non-mint Ike, they don't have to have flashy colors for me to enjoy the history. I like to think about what coins were in the pockets of the people making these insulators back through time. Insulator industry started in the 1840s. The amazing thing to me is that when the event commemorated by the REV of our Ikes was happening, there were some insulators allowing the message to be carried through the wire they were holding that had been doing this same job for 100 years.

From the days of seated designs to Eisenhowers - if only they could talk for themselves - coins and glass!

On my recent trip, I spoke with my mom about collecting coins. She was kind enough to give me some stuff she has held onto for some time, including these clad Ikes.

After graduating undergraduate school in 1978, she took a trip that included Las Vegas. There, she won these five Ikes and has had them ever since. So, after nearly 40 years they are now in my collection!
