Was wondering about TPGs.

I have recently found what I believe to be a 1916 SLQ, pictured here.

TPGs

My local coin shops use NGC for their grading, and I was wondering if NGC would be the best TPG for my coin. What I am most concerned about is the marks on the rim that might prevent a standard grade. I am unfamiliar with NGC, would they slab this with a grade, or refuse to grade it or what?

Really in bad shape though. Not sure if really a 1916 either. Sending to a TPG service would be one sure way of finding out but would cost you and if not, just a little waste of time and money. For a coin with that possible value, might be worth it though.

Yep, NGC does Details Grading now so that would probably be your best route if you plan to resell. PCGS just notes GENUINE with no grade at all, an almost worthless service IMO.

Bio, I agree with your statement, in general, particularly when dealing with a coin that might be AU or MS and they avoid the issue altogether. But on a key-date coin of such low grade, seems like the issue of being genuine is the most important detail.
