Another great addition to my growing collection of Classic Silver Commemorative .... this is a 1936-S Oregon Half graded by PCGS as MS67. Sellers photo do not do this coin justice ..... blast white without even a hint of toning and the 'black crud' that is so common on this series. Incredibly well-struck beautiful coin in hand ..... and a wonderful design/story behind it. I've spent a few after-work hours tonight checking this coin out. I wish you could see her for yourself. Anyways ..... PCGS Population Report lists only 4 ... yep .... four .... 36-S graded higher. Before you ask .... I purchased this on-line for $640. Numismedia price guide is $1060. One more step in my long-term quest of the complete 50 coin type set. David

Indeed ...... I'm pleased that some of you as well enjoy the beauty and history of these classic US silver commemorative. I am absolutely spell-bound by the entire series ..... IMHO there is no other USA intended-for-circulation series where you can find as much variety in design (horrible to wonderful), history and all-around enjoyment of collecting. No doubt they are expensive today ...... a great barrier alas to wider enjoyment of a great numismatic joy. For sure this lovely Oregon Half is a prized piece of my now 26 coin type collection ...... 24 to go! Thanks for the comments. David

Funny how PCGS AND NGC places the Indian/map (dateless) reverse on the front of the holder, and justifiably so. It is probably the best US silver coin design ever to come from that facility, and is a good candidate for best US coin design ever, the high relief Peace dollar and UHR St. Gaudens double eagle notwithstanding. There are some other great designs within the 50-coin set, and also some of the worst designs marketed for some highly questionable events. I had a really good volume on the classic series, written by Bowers, that detailed all of the political shenanigans that went into each of these commemoratives. As I recall, the paperback cover featured an oversized rendition of this Oregon Trail reverse. Itmade for some fascinating reading. Beautiful coin, David, glad you added it to your set.
