Geepers ..... I am having great fun finding these well-worn Classic US Commemorative ...... holding them in my hands is such a joy ..... they represent stories of history ..... if only they could speak.

Anyways .... here is another .... an 1893 Isabella Quarter ..... the only Classic US Commemorative Quarter ..... total distribution of 24,214 coins ...... it's amazing that one of them could have seen enough service to arrive at this lovely circulated state ....

She is now part of my growing (and admittedly odd-ball) collection of worn US Classic Silver Commemorative .... 8 total so far!

Let me know what you think of this coin.

I've been thinking about picking one up, my dealer has one. What is the market pricing for vf-xf?

Nice coin though...

I am really amazed to know an Isabella Quarter circulated to this extent. Most circulated examples are in the AU range and many of those may just be the result of being poorly taken care of along the way. I really like the Isabella design and hope to get one along the way, I think I would really enjoy putting together a commemorative type set after I "complete" the US type set.

A slabbed VF - EF should run near $400.

to the forum ACE Mike ...... glad to have you here.

I suspect this worn and lovely Isabella will grade somewhere closer to G-8 or so ..... but tend to agree with your assessment of value on the higher grades.

Thanks for the welcome David!

I agree the worn quarter is a Good-4, nice for the grade, no problems. I really suspect it was a pocket piece as I can't believe it actually circulated 20+ years to get that worn down.

David,
That is one neat quarter! I am almost tempted to want one for myself in AG-3. It would be neat and bizarre to have the entire 50 coin set in G-4!, though probably the majority of commems did not circulate unlike the Columbians. Sometimes a well worn coin is just fun and different" particularly after looking at hundreds of AU-BU sliders and certified MS slabs... Thanks for sharing.

to the CCF zazenboy ...... pleased to have you here.

I'm catching up from 3 days of work (and reading backwards) and see you have posted thoughts in several other commemorative threads ..... looking forward to reading your contributions.

What great fun that would be ..... but alas I doubt it is possible.

I suspect, as you suggested, that many of the classic series did not circulate at all ...... and the #1 all-time low-ball set at PCGS has 8 coins at VF35 or better with 2 at AU-58 as the 'lowest graded'.

That said ..... I humbly admit to enjoying these well-worn classics as much or maybe even more than their slabbed MS versions.

I have 8 of the 50 in well worn condition ..... and this lovely circulated Isabella is one of them. Hope to find more someday.

What stories they could tell ......

Again .... welcome.

David
