1885-O: Tough call. I see the flattened talons and leaves near the wreath which indicate a soft strike, but usually the eagle's neck and leg feathers show some of that and they don't. Instead, there I see just the slightest bit of rub. On the obverse, I still see that littlest bit of wear as opposed to old-die or weak-strike artifacts.

AU55 or 58.

1881-S: This one is an entirely different matter. Wish the pics were better, but I see a typically-strong strike and very few distractions. Nothing on the cheek, very little in the fields, only one hidden mark on the reverse left of the wreath. MS65 all day, probably 66, based upon the incomplete data of these photos.

You expect 1881-S coins to be strongly struck and of high grade. This one is special, even against those high standards.

On the 85-O I see the slighest bit of rub so I'll grade it at AU-58.

The 81-S is MS-65 at least and beautiful coin.

If you are using PCGS, the probable grade for the 1885-O is AU58. The 1881-S looks to be a high end MS 64/ low end MS 65.
The early S mint years, particularly 1880 and 1881 are considered the most beautiful strikes of the entire Morgan series, due to the fact the San Francisco mint's equipment was all new. Having said that, third party graders take that aspect in to account when grading the early S mint coinage, hence the fact the 1881-S may receive a grade of MS 64 when by most accounts compared to other years, the grade of MS 65 would be appropriate.
