This may be a stupid question, but where are all the 2009 coins in circulation? I mean, it's almost March of 2010 and is all I have seen are a few 2009 pennies. Any ideas?

I agree about LP, as I have many roles of all 4 varieties. I'm talking about the nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar.

In my limited experience, the 2009's are almost as hard to find as the Wheaties! One, maybe two per 1000 is about all I have found. And like lafaa123, I haven't seen any LP4s. Quite enigmatic they are.

The pennies were hoarded. Plain and simple. Very few to be found in circulation.

I find a bunch of 2009 Lincolns in circulation, it's the nickels and dimes that I can't find.

I've only read about one person finding a 2009 D nickel roll last week on another forum. I've been searching on ebay for months now and have not found any business strike D nickels or dimes for sale or sold as of yet. (other then one certified MS-65 d nickel for $550.00) I have asked on this forum twice over the last few months and so far have heard no word of any at shows either. At this point I might trade roll for roll of silver for the illusive D-mint Business Strike nickles and dimes. This is a modern day key just waiting to be discovered at your local bank! Frustrating, but on some level, fun!

I'm getting about half a roll of cents in every box, although I have yet to find a LP4 D. I'm keeping all of them. I've found one 2009 P nickel after searching 3 boxes. That puts me on par with coppernickeldaddy, although he had to search 16,000 rolls to find his. I have 2 quarters and no dimes, although, to tell you the truth, I haven't looked much for them. But the cents are starting to show up more and more. Matt

There was an extremely low mintage on the Dimes and Nickels for 2009. The Mint stopped producing them early in the year.....so they're going to be scarce. As far as the LP4, I've found three now, but just give it time ....they're sitting in the Fed. Resv. banks and they be out in plenty supply soon. Qtrs. will be the same. (Though with the '09 Qtrs., really, I have seen a moderate amount of the "D" mint Territories......they were never "scarce" here in Kansas) There wasn't any need for coinage from most banks last year, and so there are just hoards of new coinage sitting in vaults waiting to be ordered by banks......give it time. (The Nickels & Dimes FOR '09, however, ARE JUST GONNA BE SCARCE !) The mintage numbers ARE known for these I believe, so one can see for ones' self why there so hard to come by.....and these are probably sitting in a vault somewhere too, and what little there is, just hasn't been "released" into circulation in total volume just yet.) I do not believe that the LP4 (P or D) is a "low mintage" by any means whatsoever....so the flood of these just hasn't quite begun yet. Quote: hemisboats..... --- I agree about LP, as I have many roles of all 4 varieties. The half dollar is not in circulation and can only get them in the uncirculated mint sets of by getting the rolls from the US Mint.
As for the pennies have found 2009 but also no LP4 and dined and nickles none as of yet. Every time I get a nice looking nickel or dime I look but never 2009 yet.

If you think the '09 nickels and dimes are tough to find, don't even think about finding 2010 (nickel & dimes)for a long, long time.
