I did not see the work 'copper' anywhere in the listing.
Looks to me like he is selling a BU roll of 1943-D steel Lincolns.
Perhaps the photo is confusing you?

I agree nothing either in the pictures or in the description makes me think any of these are copper

Actually, if you read down through the site he talks about how he loves the red color of pennies and does not ever mention these are steel. I wrote him a question asking for clarification. We'll see if he changes the listing.

"Brilliant Uncirculated Roll (50 pcs) of 1943-D Lincoln WHEAT Cents"
he says right at the bottom of his spiel that it is 50 1943 ds.

I wouldn't spend $3+ per coin for 50 Steelies. Even in "BU"

Oh, and YES it is possible. An unknown number were made, due to an accident at the mint...
In 1943 mint workers thought they had made sure than no 1942 copper blanks remained in the hoppers. They missed some because 1943 copper cents were later found in circulation. None are known in new condition. Genuine 1943 copper cents are rare and hard to find, and they can be extremely valuable. A specimen sold in 1999 brought $112,500 at public auction!

I would not be surprised if there are more 43 coppers laying around in some unknown yet to be discovered hoard.

I seem to recall reading around the 1999 time frame that an "average Joe" had a whole bunch of rolled pennies that he had gotten from his father... he had heard there were a few coppers minted in 1942.... so he decided to search through the rolls... lo and behold, he discovered he had some... I want to say it was in an article in the NY Times or Washington Post.

Thanks for the story 925dealer. This must be considered the holy grail of the Lincoln pennies.
