Searched some CRs today but not luck.
I am thinking about ordering a box just to see how I do. From what I am reading,
returns are a bit better than doing a lot of the half dollars.
I have ordered six boxes of halves and did okay on the first four. The last two
were in different colored wrappers and absolutely stunk worse than a sick skunk.

I think dimes are the easiest denomination to dump. The coin counters near me can hold $1000 in dimes before they need to change the bags. That's 4 boxes. Dimes are also easier to carry and quieter when dumping. Dimes are a breeze :)

I don't have enough money to search a box of dimes usually. They do seem to produce average results with silver. My guess is because dimes are small and silver is often missed.

problem with dimes I've had dumping is occasionally I've had alot of them count as pennies and it was such a mess sorting it all out - as they all got mixed into the penny bag
i did pull 2 1964s today out of a box

I don't worry about dimes being counted as pennies. It's never too many at least. And I figure it is a heck of a lot cheaper than coinstar charging 10% or whatever it is. If I lose a buck from dimes, I'm not too worried about it.

If I do a box of dimes, I can take sections of them do different branches and either
have the coin counters do the work or roll a few for the tellers.
I also think they are easier than halves but halves still have a stronger allure for me. I am
hoping to find a Benjamin like some have recently reported finding.
In short, I think I am going to start doing a mix of 1 or 2 boxes of halves and 1 or 2 boxes or dimes
per week if possible.

I would love to search halves, but I don't know how to get the bank to order them for me. I have found some silver in bank trays though. Got a walker from a tray :)

I did a box of dimes last night and they were all 2011-P.
It is fustrating to open a box of dimes and see all the shiny copper edges.

Quick guide to those searching halves.
1964 and before - 90% Silver
1965 to 1970 - 40% Silver
Those with "S" mint mark are proofs and may be clad or 90% silver.

Box #63: 1955 1956 d 1964 d (x2) 1955 is the lowest mintage dime, and this was also the best condition dime I have ever found. The pictures below don't even show all the luster that the coin has. It also has a neat die break at 2:00 on the obverse. Very happy with this box.     |
