Yeah I had considered 'specializeing' in pennies because its so easy to get so many with so little investment capital on hand (sure taking them back over and over again is no investment but its easier for me to take home 25$s in pennies then 500$s in quarters :D.)
But then I thought, no statistically you wanna spread out because that way your playing the odds against someone else in your district focusing on one search style themselves.
I am now officially happy that I stuck with doing a little bit of everything now that I got my first shiny (not so) new silver dime hehehehe. :D :D :D *more happy dance* :D

I asked a question back on page 193 about dimes dumped in a coin counter machine being counted as pennies. I dumped $5 in dimes as a test yesterday and they went through just fine. I ended up dumping $25 in dimes without a problem. Just an update to let everyone know.
I want to start searching dimes but I was not looking forward to wrapping all them back up.

The only reason I re-wrap is because of shorts. Dimes being counted as pennies for me is not a problem, bank credits my account as they know I'm am dumping a straight denomination. Now, If I return $500 to the bank in wrapped coin, I get back $500 in cash.

ffdirt, does your bank care if you turn in wrapped dimes? Or would they rather have you use the coin machine? My Credit Union will no longer take wrapped coins. I'm required to use their coin machine. I can have the money deposited or cashed. They don't care.
I normally dump multiple denominations at a time. I was just trying to avoid a problem. I have access to another bank that allows me to dump loose coins in a clear plastic bag with an account number on it. As long as I don't dump my halves they don't really care. That may be the best way for me to get rid of the dimes.
Also, what do you mean by:

What are shorts? I mean rolls being short of coins. If I buy cwr and run them ($500 worth) through the coin counter, chances are the amount comes back shy of $500. I don't ever recall counting dimes manually to make sure there are 50 dimes in each roll, not when I search amounts of $500-$2,000 at a time. For several years I brought bags of loose dimes in and received my cash immediately. The bank doesn't count the bags either. I've never had a problem with this routine. Crazy huh? One credit union has a very nice counter, therefore, I doubt they take rolled coin from regular customers, and I have never tried. They do take rolled coin from elderly customers only because the elders refuse to use "those newfangled contraptions", they just don't trust the machine. Thanks for the clarification fistfulladirt. I know what you mean about never having trouble with turning in bags of coins. I have never had the bank ding my account because one came up short.
I don't search the volume that you do so I regularly count the coins from customer wrapped Rolls. They mostly contain 50 each from my regular banks and CU. But I have had some rolls come up as many as 5 coins short from banks in the downtown area.
